Crystal Girls and Dictators
The observations described in this hold no scientific weight and should be interpreted subjectively. The data is taken from a small sample size and not all crystal girls and dictators are created equal.
Is there really anything in common between crystal girls and history’s long list of infamous dictators? The two groups actually have a lot more in common than you might expect. Of course some discrepancies will be present, but they’re quite similar down to their basic qualities.
Many crystal girls care deeply about having a grandiose self image. Not to the extent of dictators like Mao and Hitler who viewed themselves as having godlike qualities, but in the ways of needing validation and attention from others. Many crystal girls begin to set this standard by building their following, just as a dictator organizes their initially small cadre of supporters. Everyone has to start somewhere- and in an attempt to form relationships, whether faceless or genuine, they aim to know everybody. Introductions through basic compliments, and in some cases through physical touch, are exhibited to reinforce the bond. A dictator may find regular bombing to be effective, while a crystal girl would instead opt for love bombing and proceed to do everything in their power to manipulate someone into a relationship. For a dictator this may come in the form of blackmail and violence to instill fear, while the crystal girl may follow a more passive approach in their relationship building. Whether genuine or not this creates the illusion that they are universally loved. This persona of being happy, carefree, and energetic may in some cases be their true nature but most of the time these theatrics are part of a larger facade. The standings of both dictators and crystal girls in the public eye is all dependent on how positively they are viewed. It’s not my place to generalize all crystal girls and dictators into categories but seeing as this is an analysis of the two, many would fall somewhere along the spectrum of narcissist, malignant narcissist, or sociopath.
Crystal girls and dictators share a variety of common interests. One common theme with the two is experimental drug use. While a crystal girl may be found blitzed on a variety of different substances at say- a music festival, Hitler would have been found blitzed at a festival of his own. More specifically the 1936 Olympics or any given Nazi rally. Hitler and his Nazi cohorts were even getting blitzed for the mass invasion of Europe- which would fittingly come to be known as the blitzkrieg. Unlike getting high at a Hitler mega rager, crystal girls at EDM festivals are given the comfort of a quasi- crystal girl convention where they are met with a safe space and greeted with an echo chamber of “oh my god I love your energy.” It can even be said that some of Hitler’s Nazi scientists paved the way for some of the recreational drugs crystal girls use today. As it turns out, the same drugs Nazi troops used to stay awake, walk for miles without resting, and feel no pain or hunger during their invasion of Europe, also make extended periods of raving pretty easy. It’s no wonder people yearn for drugs when it comes to killing and dancing. Those partaking in the two seemingly opposite activities can benefit from taking the edge off.
Another common interest between the two is a fascination with eastern cultures- particularly in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Crystal girls have a strong affinity to yoga, predominantly non abrahamic religion, traditional dress, tattoos, burning random plants, and herbal healing among other things. On the bright side, they differ from dictators in that they are unwilling to arm themselves and forcibly control these regions in the name of, say communism and facism, yet many will still peaceably invade through the likes of a spiritual retreat or volunteer trip. Nowadays, most crystal girls pride themselves on their progressivist mindsets, in an era where it is becoming less and less trendy to rule the third world with violence and desired economic systems in mind. Military occupation in these regions has been mostly replaced with the occupation of vegan cafes, influencers, and second hand vintage shops.
The use of media is another common interest between crystal girls and dictators. While a dictator before social media may have used written or radio broadcasted propaganda to keep the people in check, the modern day crystal girl uses various forms of social media. The instagram ratio is one of their most essential tools. In having a large following but only following a small number of people, an environment of exclusivity is created. The crystal girl has the time in their day to receive attention from others, while the attention they give must be earned. Though the content itself crystal girls tend to post follows a style closer to carelessness than calculation, it is anything but uncalculated. To convince people they are purely living in the moment, the media is often presented in a style unorthodox to the usual sought out perfection of photographers. The more careless the better. Because the media is often blurry, uncentered and lacking any composition whatsoever, this hints to the viewer that the crystal girl doesn’t strive for perfection. This is just another way crystal girls are resourceful in manipulating people’s perceptions of them.
Like dictators, the crystal girl must take risks to achieve their desired social standing. Just as the crystal girl uses media to manage their image, the dictator will do the same, only using slightly different techniques. There is no room for error when crafting a grandiose self image and so negative information will be withheld from the public. Media that will be shared, portray the dictator in a positive light- both powerful and capable of meeting the people’s needs. Fidel Castro, among just about every other dictator, took a page right out of the crystal girl manifesto. In a similar light to the fabrication of exclusivity, he took it upon himself to just imprison or assassinate dissenting journalists. If crystal girls all of a sudden acquired this level of authority, the effects would be devastating. Luckily the regimes of crystal girls are generally confined to a niche social circle as opposed to widespread authoritarian rule.
Throughout history, humans have shared a fascination with crystals and rocks. Valued for their looks, type, and quality, they’ve been used for things such as currency, healing, and manifestation. With cleansing regiments and advised care routines to keep the energy and vibrations of the crystal in a positive light, crystals themselves are viewed as living entities which must be given attention and kept safe. When we feel discomfort in the things least understood, it is common to search for a sense of reason amidst the confusion. Through religion, people turn to some otherworldly thing for answers. Oftentimes people will view their faith as a sort of genie in a bottle; a way to fulfill their wishes and hope for a favorable outcome in any given situation. Crystal girls have been known to go as far as hiding crystals in the living spaces of those they want to like them. This level of manifestation can be viewed as adopting religion for selfish means. If only Stalin believed in crystal manifestation as opposed to facilitating the killing of at least six million of his own citizens. What Stalin and crystal girls do have in common is a dislike for Western culture. For Stalin it’s a detriment to the rigid soviet dogma, while crystal girls pursue it as a means to be quirky and unique. While it’s difficult to imagine Stalin donning his Birkenstock Bostons and selecting an assortment of crystals to stash in his beige tote bag, he and the crystal girls would probably vibe with each other’s energy.
Astrology goes hand in hand with the phenomena of crystal girls in that the answers to life’s discrepancies are sought through inanimate objects and occurrences of the natural world. Though the seemingly magical effects of rocks and space are not yet proven, it can be fun to imagine that these things do actually work. Unfortunately this is the easy way out of things. Instead of facing problems head on with logic and rational thinking, crystal girls often associate the outcomes of their actions and those of others with the mystical workings of crystals and astrology. Using crystals to get what you want is fortunately far less sinister than engaging in genocide or all out religious warfare, but the two actions do fall under the same basis of individuals associating religion or cultural practices with their own selfish means. Of course it’s much easier to get your way with an army of loyal soldiers to do your bidding, as opposed to an assortment of meticulously selected rocks.
It is important to note that the observations laid out in this work are a consideration of the extreme sides of the spectrum. Not all crystal girls show all or even any of these qualities, and despite the pop culture given nickname “crystal girls,” individuals who show these qualities are not limited to just females. In the same respect, I do not wish to marginalize the detestable atrocities and crimes committed by any number of dictators that may come to mind while reading this. Obviously your average farmers market attending, metal straw sipping crystal girl is a far cry from individuals like Hitler and Stalin. This merely aims to put an unthinkable comparison into perspective and connect the dots between repetitive human behavior that often goes unnoticed.
